Early in his career, he wrote and directed short films and earned a Tony nomination for The Lieutenant of Inishmore. He gained wider recognition in Harry Potter, About Time, and Ex Machina. A three-time IFTA winner, he has starred in Star Wars, The Revenant, and The Patient, earning a Golden Globe nomination.
