Garry studied film at the London College of Communication and the Irish National Film School. Graduating in 1992, he worked as a DOP in New York and London before settling in Ireland, where he has spent 25 years as a documentary filmmaker. He has directed over 100 hours of TV documentaries across 20 countries for European and US broadcasters. In 2011 he founded Real Films; his work has earned 11 IFTA nominations and four wins, including Best Director TV in 2013 and 2018.
