The Venice International Film Festival, founded in 1932, is the world’s oldest film festival. Held annually on the Lido, it showcases work from both established and emerging filmmakers and is renowned for premiering major international productions. Irish films screened there include The Butcher Boy (1997), Michael Collins (1996), which won the Golden Lion, The Lobster (2015), winner of the Jury Prize, The Wonder (2022) and That They May Face the Rising Sun (2023).
